Here's a photo I've just taken from our garden, the farmers are very busy at the moment with lots of tractors coming and going especially in the evening - they look great with their big headlights shining. Wish I could capture the sun on the golden field and old farm buildings it looks lovely (if you look very closely can you see the campers, bottom right!)
Oooo it's young Master Twiglet and Mavis, we had another day out with Thomas it was hot and lots of fun, loads of VERY excited little boys (and a few girls) running around like loons, Twiglet was one excited young man, we all came home and had to have an afternoon nap!!! I've said this before but if you ever get the opportunity to visit Kirklees Light Railway (they have a website) do so, it's a great place and the people who own it are terrific.Apart from the usual baking and playing with the new breadmaker ( a small loaf a day gulp - I must show more restraint or I'll become Piggypeasticks) as I've not been driving this week we've spent tons of time in the garden yay!!!! or buying things on the internet - oops!

I've given quite a lot of stuff away on Freecycle recently and sold a few bits on Ebay and look what I bought with some of my cash.
I've coveted these books for ages.....................
I've not had chance to have a good look at them yet, but the Doodle Stitching book looks great and I heart Jenny Hart (can you see what I did there:) I already have Sublime Stitching which is fab.
A bundle of scrummy fabric.
And a gorgeous writing set for my Sister In Laws birthday from the Etsy seller Charliemotel, isn't it pretty?
I seem to have got my crafting mojo back, I'm pretty pants at knitting but would like to improve and bought this little book a while ago, it's fab for basic knitters like me. I'm currently making a pressie for my friend, bet you can't guess what it is (please don't strain your necks trying to look at it, as I've added a sideways photo again:)
Talking of knitting, did you see this in The Guardian today it is a good incentive for me to improve my pathetic skills as there is some fabby stuff in there. Lots of great projects by a fantastic lady called Mazz (the one who made the excellent Dr Who aliens last year).
I've also taken inspiration (stolen) Marmadaisys idea of Crifting (being crafty in a thrifty manner). Here are a pair of shorts made from a cut down pair of Twiglets old jeans complete with patches from an outgrown t.shirt of his. I think they look pretty crifty and nifty myself!
My pal (mentioned previously) is going to the Cropredy Festival soon - 3 nights without the children - woohoo you go girl !! note to self stop watching Gok Wan). Anyhoo, I'm going to attempt to make her a gift with these items, any guesses? I will show you the end result, but please note the word ATTEMPT!!!
I've won a Brilliant blog Award from Jan @ Daylily Lane, thank you so much, I've already been lucky enough to be given this one so I won't pass it on again. Apart from to say award it to yourselves lovely readers and pass it on at will!!
Righto, I've been tagged by lovely Jennie @ Falling Down the Rabbit Hole - thank you kindly lady. You know, I'm sure I've done this before, so for once I'll keep it short and to the point, yeah, yeah first time for everything I know :)

Phew, nearly there. I've finally posted out my Cupcake Swap but won't post a piccy until I know it's arrived safely with Cathy in Australia, hope you like it Cathy.
As I said previously I intended to have a Giveaway for my 50th post and completely forgot, so Please leave a comment and let me know which classic book I should read next. I'll ask Twiglet to draw a name out of one of his lurid Ikea bowls next Friday and announce the winner. Haven't decided what the prize is, as I'm going to tailor it to the winners likes/dislikes. (Ha ha cop out by Twiggy).
Have a great week
Twiggy x
PS The Woman in White is VERY gripping so far!
I'm seriously coveting your stitching books! I've had my eye on them for ages but have resisted up till now!!!
ReplyDeleteI recently read Of Mice and Men - great book. I'm also rather partial to Jamaica Inn and a bit of Pride and Prejudice...then again there's Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights.....or Mrs Pepperpot :)
I'm going on a charity shop shopping spree on Monday so will be on the lookout for Woman In White.
Congratulations on your 50th post!!

Oh Wow! The view from your window is incredible! I'm now green with envy! Love the look of your sewing books too - do let us know what they are like (and maybe share some photos of the inside too??)- it's my birthday soon(ish) so I need to start making my book wish-list!
ReplyDeleteLucy x
Looks like you had a great day with Thomas!
ReplyDeleteToo Kill a Mocking Bird is a great book if you've not read it.
done the tag, Jennie tagged me as well! and the fabric look great.
ReplyDeleteJosie x
The Grapes of Wrath.. that is such a great novel..
ReplyDeleteThose stitching books looks fabulous. I am seriously envious.
ReplyDeleteWell done on 50 posts. I really enjoyed reading Dracula, but if that's a bit gothic what about I capture the Castle, or if we want to be really classic then Little Women
We didn't get the Guardian yesterday (for the first time in ages) so am off to ask at the newsagent if they have any left, if not may be asking you to photocopy it for me!!
ReplyDeleteI have done the six random facts, blimey, t'was hard! Hope it doesn't disappoint!!
Daisie xxx
PS: I have recently re-read 'Bread and Honey' by Ivan Southall, not sure if it's really a classic but quite old and worth a read, very strange!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I was looking at that Doodle Stitching book on Amazon just yesterday! It looks very tempting, I must admit. I need to do some serious flogging on eBay so perhaps I will be able to afford it sometime soon?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the word 'crifting' - brilliant! I'm going to use that, if I may?
Many congratulations on 50 fabulous posts.

I'm coveting your new fabric! Would you mind if I enquired where you got it?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what defies classic books. I have read a meme recently which discussed the top 80 books which everyone should read. Two of my very favourites from that list are Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides and The Cider House Rules by John Irving. Have you read 1984?
I've also had a discussion recently about The Catcher In The Rye, I only read it a couple of years ago and was significantly underwhelmed. I'm advised that this is because I am (at 26) too old to be reading it for the first time!
Hi peeps
ReplyDeleteThanks for your responses, some great recommendations and quite a few I've already read - ohh get me, but keep sending them in.
Lucy - I'll post some pics of the books soon.
kitty - I nicked the great word crifting from Marmadaisy :) good innit?
Vonnie - i bought my fabric from an ebayer, blow-n-bubbles, I've had loads from her, lovely stuff
Twiggy x
PS Vonnie Mr Twigs bought The Grapes of Wrath for my birthday when I was around 30 and I COULD NOT get into it, he loved it but read it for the first time when he was 12, I'm glad I'm not alone:)

Goodness - look at the view from your garden - some sort of picture postcard! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHmm, classics- what about a bit of D.H. Lawrence? Bit of northern grit, bit of sauce, bit of angst. Little Women and all its sequels! Also a classic, plus it's a gorgeous bit of escapism.
Lovely goodies bought with ebay funds. Magic.
I love Cropredy, have been several times and it never loses its appeal.
ReplyDeleteMy classic book recommendations would be Pride & Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Dracula, Phantom of the Opera, OK - I'll stop now....
Congrats on 50 posts!!
April xx
Thank you Miss Twiggy - I've passed the tags along...

The view from your garden is stunning. The council have just erected a huge black street lamp in front of my view! I can't help with book suggestions but I also loved Tess of the D'urbervilles.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a lovely day out at the trains. Cute piccie of your son!
ReplyDeleteAll your stash looks heaven. The writing set is just beautiful btw!

How exciting a giveaway. I don't read these days, so I can't recommend a classic book. Can I still be entered, please, pretty please! Great facts about you, I love beetroot too, and could eat it until the cows come home. Talking of cows, the view from your garden is absolutely stunning, how I would give my right arm for that. I remember the harvest on the farm very well, with the combine harvesters going up and down, a lovely sight. It is nice to see a shot of your garden, more please, although I appreciate not the best place to be at the moment, the heat is again stifling here, and I have come inside for a while. Congratulations on the award Twiggy, you deserve one as you are always so good at handing them out! x
ReplyDeleteI've had my eye on those stitching books too. Can't wait to see what you make from it :)
ReplyDeleteMy Pickles adores Thomas like your Twiglet, looks like he had a fab time. Gorgeous photo from your back garden :)
Put me in the giveaway if you please. I always loved reading the Velveteen Rabbit to my sons. Not a grown up classic, but a classic none the less. They still remember it and Twiglet would love it if he's not heard it already. Hugs, Jan@daylilylane
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome on your award.

Oh! The ones I would have suggested are in already! Not esp. classic but a cracking rompy read none the less MM Kaye - Shadow of the Moon.
ReplyDeleteSuggest you stay away from Hardy unless you are feeling particularly desperate,Hardy won't help with melancholia but at least one doesn't feel so alone!
My dear Miss Twiggy
ReplyDeleteyou have been super busy! as usual, wonderful stuff here and its always a joy reading everything here...since I cant do any of that. hugs always
The view is gorgeous, so are the shorts and your day out by the looks of it. The books look great and I missed the guardian :( (well I don't get it so that would be why I missed it!) and that looks fab!
ReplyDeleteI like Jean Greanhowe as well! I haven't seen that knitting book, I may look out for it as I am total pants at knitting.
Am trying to think of a classic that hasn't been mentioned but I would have said Women in White as I love that book (have my Grandads copy which is very old and dusty)had you not already been reading it... how about 'The turn of the screw' by Henry James for some ghostly weirdness (more of a novella than a novel apparently) or 'The great Gatsby' but obviously much better to watch Robert Redford on dvd instead of reading the book. You could read the book and watch the dvd at the same time! :D
ooooh!! Love the books - I want them TOOO, the view is gorgeous!!!, I too am extremely allergic to cats - nice to finally find a fellow blogger who can't be near felines - and as for a clasic......
ReplyDeleteto kill a mocking bird has to be one of the all time bests - or wuthering heights - because it's not what you expect!

Wow - how much info in this post. I love the look of that JiffyKnits book ... and doodle stitching ... I doodle a lot when I am on the phone - perhaps I could be constructive and stitch instead?
ReplyDeleteHow about Don Quixote?
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely view you have!
ReplyDeleteI've got both of those stitching books on my bookshelf...you'll enjoy them ;-)
