I've been a bit remiss this week on the blogging front as wee Twiglet has still got a grotty cold and I'm starting with it now, so we've spent the last couple of days cuddling under a throw on the sofa, very nice. no one gives a cuddle like a nearly 3 year old (yes my baby is 3 this month - where did the time go???) however, they do tend to end with him rolling on my head or tickling me or something equally as minxy.Anyhoo, I've been meaning to post some of my charity/thrift shop finds for a while now and blimey I've found another belter this morning in the next village. I've lived here for 2 years and never noticed it. Ok, here we go.......................
Firstly above is a fantastic book that I found with oodles of cross stitch patterns in it, it is so useful and cost £1 !!
Don't know if I've mentioned this before but I love peacocks,(I also love seahorses, and nearly called my blog Peacocks and Seahorses, but I digress :) love their colours, their shape, everything. I was v.giddy to pick up this Irish linen tea towel for 25p !!!!!!! still haven't decided what to do with it but I LOVE it.
Here's a bundle of scarves that I bought purely because I love the colours, I've already worn the teal one as a kind of jaunty neck scarf -ooh get me. I love the colours of the one at the front, it just encapsulates Spring to me, gorgeous.
This beautiful tea tray cloth was a find in the new charity shop I discovered this morning, it is wonderful and hand embroidered, it cost me 30p!!! I know the work and love that no doubt went into this, so I'll treasure it forever.
I can't believe the amount of books that I've bought for Twiglet from charity shops, all of these were great finds and are Twiglets bedtime favourites and you wouldn't believe me but they are new and cost 30p each, they are all fairly big as well. I actually put the Spike Milligan one (it's wonderful by the way - buy it for you, never mind your children) on my Amazon wishlist and it was around £17 so imagine how pleased I was to find it :)
The beautiful lady lying next to the books is Nellie my elephant that my Grandad bought me before I was even born, so imagine how old she is. She's covered in bald patches, her tail and ears have been sewn back on more times than I can remember and Twiglet now loves her as much as I do. Don't tell anyone but whenever I've been in hospital or doing something scarey, I've hidden her in my bag, she was introduced to Twiglet on the morning he was born - yes I'd smuggled her in , in my bag :)
Seeing as I've introduced you to Nellie it would be rude not to mention Musha. This is Mr Twiggys well loved teddy bear, who is now completely bald. Apparently a cousin of his passed him on to Mr Twigs when Mr Twigs was very small and his name was Monsier bear, however this proved a little difficult for him to say, so he was christenend Musha, isn't he lovely?? He has pride of place in the spare room as he doesn't feel it would be dignifed for a bear of his age and stature to be manhandled by Twiglet :)
Look what I received in the post this week, OK call Buttons Anonymous, I'm an addict, I just can't help it. Aren't they lovely? I played with them for ages and now have 2 large button tins - woohoo.

Don't know if you remember the baby blanket I made for his little brother?but I promised James a sock monkey and finally here he is.........................................
I do hope he likes him, but if not we've also bought him a little die cast James engine and a big pack of Thomas the Tank Engine stickers, chosen by Twiglet. Very subtle my son, can you buy them for my birthday too Mummy, erm ok, but look surprised when you open them :)

Hi, I found your blog tonight and oh-my-goodness I am amazed... the peacock scarf... I had this design as a beautiful wooden jigsaw puzzle as a child. It is still at my parents home. I have never seen this design anywhere else, I will try to get a picture of it next time I visit my mum.

You have done well, I hope the wee one is feeling a little better now
ReplyDeletegreat finds! and, yes, 3 is a wonderful age...that's how old my granddaughter will be soon...they are so fun and lovey-dovey to cuddle with! hope you all feel better soon...sick here, too...
ReplyDeleteTimes goes far too fast, get all the cuddles you can while Little Twig fits on your lap. My biggest baby is seven in August, we joke I'll soon have to sit on her lap!! Lovely buttons, do you stroke them, I do?! XXX
ReplyDeleteHi Twiggy, I hope you and Twiglet are feeling better now? Great finds at the charity shop and the kid's books are always great, really no need to buy new. You could do with a baldness cure in your household, what with Nellie and Musha both being thin on top. I did smile when I read of you smuggling Nellie into your bag, I hope you had airholes in it! x
ReplyDeleteIt's scary how quick they grow isn't it... I love buying books from charity stores . I found 10 Fireman Sam ladybird type books for £1.25, bargain. Thats a lot of buttons :-)
ReplyDeleteLisa x
I love the sock Monkey.. Rosie Pink sends her his good wishes and secretly thinks he is very dashing but she is going to be very much "A Diva" and i am afraid she will be high maintenance for an Sock Monkey. LOL.
ReplyDeleteTake Care,
Sarah x
oooh I love all the charity shop finds. Price is good too !
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous bargains Twiggy ... and scrummylicious buttons.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful sock monkey who will be well loved. You are so clever.
Love the Spike Milligan book, Ellie entered a talent show and recited some of the poems in it last year.
ReplyDeleteYou do make me laugh, loving the jaunty neck scarf!
Hope your cold doesn't hinder you too much and liking the sock monkey!!
wow, lovely post! so much to comment on! love all your 'finds' especially the tray cloth and the colours on the peacock are gorgeous. Hope the twiglet is feeling better - the healing powers of a hug are amazing!

Hi Twiggy!
ReplyDeleteI loved all your finds and especially loved the buttons! Happy Birthday to Twiglet soon too! I didn't know you loved peacocks but I'll remember that for the future. The scarves are really colorful and pretty. I think the striped monkey is cute and I loved the treasured pets photos. We have a Mr. Bear that belonged to my youngest too! He has been well loved and patched a few times as well. Hugs, Jan@daylilylane
What a lovely lot of finds and look at all those buttons !!!
ReplyDeleteHope your all better soon !!

Isn't it so sad when you see something so lovely in a charity shop for not much money, when you think of the work someone put in, only for it to end up being priced almost as "worthless". I saw a beautiful crochet blanket in a charity shop recently for only £5.00 and yet it must have taken years to lovingly make. Lucky there are people like us to take up the job of treasuring these things as they should be.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Twiggy I am a great fan of charity shops
ReplyDeleteMmmm ... buttons! I'm such an addict, mine are all sorted into colours!! Love your blog, found you through swirlyarts xx
ReplyDeleteI have the Jo Verso book, too. It's great for finding motives for cards and little things to cross-stitch onto kiddies pillow cases etc. I love mine and use it regularly.
ReplyDeleteThe tray cloth's beautiful. I love the colours.
