Fantastic Friday !!!

Hooray it's Friday and double hooray because I'm not working this weekend - woohoo!! It will be so nice to celebrate Fathers Day with Mr Twigs and Twiglet and spoil my dear hubby because he deserves it. I'll be popping over to the crematorium with some flowers for my Dad too. I'll also get the opportunity to visit my lovely Mum who I haven't seen since before our hols with her being ill and me working weekends.

Like mother like son, there IS nothing funnier than drawing faces on butternut squash.
We'll be starting the weekend with a bang as Twiglets little school pal is coming round for tea and she is a real livewire !!! I've been instructed to make some cherry buns and choocolate buns with cherries and icing on top!! Could be worse though I had a lovely morning with my pal yesterday and she has to make 90 muffins for her Mums church fundraiser today !!!!!

So have you had a nice week?? we've been busy as usual. Went swimming on Wednesday which is always a good laugh. (for swimming read messed about in the learner pool).

Do you like my pretty new pumps? (apologies for horrid peely sunburnt legs :)Twiglet had a football themed day at school yesterday. We got a note home the night before to send the children in wearing a footie inspired outfit. I bought a big England flag from the lovely lady in our village shop, she charged me 50p!! it is a fab shop. Anyhoo I told Mr Twigs if I'd had more time I could have made Twiglet a Freddie Mercury style cloak and matching crown. He could have camped it up for England :) Mr Twigs told me, the scarey thing is I believe you - tee hee.

Instead he had to make do with trackie bottoms, trainers and an England polo shirt, very tasteful - pah!! I bumped into his dinner lady this morning in the village shop (I frequent it frequently:) and she showed me some photos from yesterday which are fab.

As the weather has been so nice, we've been up at the lottie most evenings, Twiglets pumpkins are coming on nicely and the potatoes are looking good.

Here are a few pics of our garden, our neighbours all have pristine gardens, ours looks well erm, lived in.(Photo of garden feature :)
I always say we moved here so our boy could play outside, so that's what he does, it is a playground with a bit of greenery. There is plenty of time for a posh garden when he's grown up.
We've really noticed how the very cold weather we had during January and February has affected the garden. My beautiful arum lilies had loads of heads on them last year and were HUGE. Look at them this year, very puny with 2 flowers :( Things are flowering much later too.
Has anyone else had this problem in the garden this year ?

Here is Twiglets little apple tree grown from an apple pip!
As I said had such a lovely day with my pal C yesterday. We did a little shopping at the garden centre - has to be done! Sat in our sunny garden and scoffed ice lollies and my home made hob nobs and laughed and laughed, perfect. Her little fella is potty training at the moment, let me tell you there is not many things cuter that a little boy in sun hat and shorts, sitting on his potty with an ice lolly in one hand and a Thomas handbag in the other having a little sing song :)(Pic of salad in raised beds in garden - scrummy )

Little bit of politics now folks. Mr Twigs is a public sector worker so like many of you we are awaiting the emergency budget with baited breath. He's worked hard for a local authority for 20 years and to be honest for the time he puts in doesn't really get what he deserves. He works in IT and for years his Sister has been telling him to get out and do contract work as she does and earn two to three times more. He has stayed put as he likes to think he's giving something to the community and supporting the local area.
He has worked overtime for nothing, lost days off in lieu cos he's too busy to take them as they are short staffed, gone into work criminally early during the week and at weekends to ensure every system is working. He doesn't mind a jot as it's what he does.

If he loses his job or his pension we would be completely knackered. I hope that folk remember that our health , education, environment, security and so much more is supported by public sector workers who are not all highly paid and work damn hard, the reports I've read this week about public sector workers having it cushy and earning too much is frankly laughable. This may be true in some cases, private or public sector will always have some dead wood and overpaid executives. However the majority of public sector workers I know do not fall into this category.

Right, did you hear that noise? it was me hopping of my soapbox.

I REALLY MUST crack on with my nieces wedding sampler, her wedding is in September and I haven't touched it since we had our car accident !!! What I plan to do is give a sampler update each week, if I don't mention it, shout at me, ok? I suppose I could always give her a lottie pumpkin instead :)
(Help yourself to a hob nob !)

My crafting mojo has completely disappeared. I think it is lack of time and getting our lottie sorted out. I've ordered lots of seeds from an Ebayer and plan to do some planting this weekend.
We have carrot, french beans, chilli, beetroot, peas, asparagus and squash seeds!!!

Righto must get on with the ironing. Have a fabby weekend.
love
Twiggy x

PS Glad so many of you like the new layout.

  1. I couldn't agree more about public sector workers. I go cold when I hear talk of cutting pay by 5% - as if people like us have a spare 5% hanging round ... well in our case that would be 10% as we both work in the public sector!!!
Hope it all goes well for you. .... meanwhile enjoy your allotment, it looks great!

hubby's job - nice to hear the other side. its the same as my hubby's job , bus driver people seem to think he gets £300 a week take home, erm, so thats why we have to claim working tax credits is it! his income last year was less than £10 thousand !!

  4. The extreme winter has affected our flowers as well, the lilies are non existent and the rhododendron though in flower have frost burn on it's leaves. We have hardly any flowers to cut for the house and I love to have home grown flowers in the vases.
Hope all goes well for you in the budget,I know what marvelous work the public sector workers do,from my time in England.

  5. huh! and my civil service job doesn't even cover the bills and has made me into a nervous wreck with the amount of abuse received from customers who seam to think we aren't human - I am just doing a job like anyone else, and don't get paid to take abuse! phew - rant over.

    enjoy your weekend!!!!

Well I"ve finally taken the plunge...................

After drooling over many blogs for months now I've decided to finally take the plunge, so here is my new dawn.
Hence the beautiful sunrise above as photographed by Mr Twiggy through our bedroom window. (I'm sure I'll be including a lot of his pics, hope he doesn't expect commision).

I love crafting and have ever since I was a little girl and spent hours playing with my mums button tin (which I've inherited) and amused my self by making dresses for my dollies - even though I'd cut their hair and given them green felt tip highlights. Punk Tiny Tears - I should have marketed this idea !!

Hope you enjoy my work as much as I've enjoyed others who are a daily inspiration to me.

I hope to share favourite blogs, books and anything and everything with you, so enough off my blithering on and watch this space...............................................
