Zoom, there goes another week.

Is it a sign of old age or does time seem to be whizzing by? We've been very busy this week.

So busy I haven't done any crafting - shock horror!! Well apart from the wedding sampler I'm doing for my niece, I'll reveal it when I've finished.

So did you have a lovely Mothers Day? I got my wish, very nicely written cards from Twiglet and some scrummy chocs, they are next to my bed and I scoff one every night before bed - I'm so restrained!! I got to choose how we spent the day so I wanted to go to my old stamping ground, Nostell Priory (I used to work there, pre Twiglet) so we did. The National Trust have spent a lot of money creating new walks and working on the obelisk, we had a wonderful afternoon walking in the sunshine. There's always time for climbing treesBlimey what a handsome chap (yes, I know I'm biased, but it's true !) We then came home and Mr Twigs made a lovely roast chicken dinner, top hubby!!!
My lovely Mum has been over for a couple of days this week, housework, chitter chatter, shopping, laughing. We do have fun.

I had my eyes tested yesterday and I've been treated by my Mum to some new glasses, they are very nice. I MIGHT show you some pics next week, when I collect them.

As I mentioned previously we took Twiglet swimming yesterday and it was good fun. We thought this will tire him out, not a bit of it. He finally went to sleep at 8.50pm and was up at 6.45am, we are wiped out, what's that all about ????

I now have a baking residency at Twiglets school, so this morning we made currant buns. Keeping a group of 4 - 6 year olds interested proved quite a challenge but we managed. I think they were wearing more flour than we actually used for the baking.

I do have some crafting in the pipline and treated myself to this loveliness this week, so watch this space.Thank you so much for your lovely supportive comments about having my hearts published, I've never had anything in a magazine before so it was a thrill.

Now I have a question for all you baking ladies out there. Could you please direct me to some VERY simple recipes to do with my 4 - 6 year olds. This is what we've made so far, choccy rice crispy nests, fruit kebabs, currant buns today. I've suggested biscuits next week as I have some Easter cookie cutters. If you could direct me to any websites or recipes you've tried successfully that would be great. I use trusty old BERO recipes a lot, the Flora challenge and BBC Good Food websites are good too. To say the school is under equipped would be an understatement, so it'll have to be simple stuff. Your help would be much appreciated.

Righto off to do a spot of ironing now and then walk down to school to collect the little fella.

Have a great weekend.

Twiggy x

  2. Sounds like you had a lovely day on Sunday Twiggy and the dinner cooked for you too how yummy

I'll have a think about simple recipes but it's a long time since I baked with little ones. The thing that comes to mind straight away is to make easter nests. you can find the recipe on this blog

  4. How about chocolate 'nests with mini eggs' for Easter. Use shredded wheatand chocolate - just like making choc crispie cakes- do them in buncases - make a 'nest shape' while still warm/melted and pop in mini eggs.
Peppermint creams? icing sugar, eggwhite, peppermint - roll out cut out sweetie shapes, put in sweetie cases - pressie for Mums.
Different kinds of fruit (the sort some children may not have tried)mango etc grapes & strawberries even - stick lumps on kebeb sticks and dip in different melted chocolate white & milk choc - banananas good.

    I will think some more.

Cold and windy ere - wearing my shawl - real old lady stuff!

  5. I think Usborne do some very good basic cooking books for children. Probably you'll find these on Amazon.

  7. Oh well done on the baking residency. I did a stint as Art helper last year. How about cheese scones? Or simple pizza? Or cheese & marmite pinwheels? Cupcakes?

Glad you had a lovely day on Sunday. x

  8. Sounds like you've been having fun but you're so right that time is flying!

I use Nigella's cookie recipe and the great thing is you can make it in advance so might be worth making some up yourself and just leaving the kiddies to cut out the cookies and/or decorating them?

What about Rocky Road? You just need melted chocolate and throw in anything, I guess nuts is a no no with kiddies but marshmallows, biscuits (digestives)... fruit etc?

And it would seem I'm all of sudden full of ideas... peppermint creams... I'm sure I have a recipe for that someone where and that's just the fun of adding food colouring too really!

Let me know if you need any help finding recipes for my suggestions as I'm sure I have them all floating around

  9. Hiya!
One of the most ingenious bakes my daughter ever did at promary school were stained glass windows, make a basic shortbread recipe, roll out and use your easter cutters, then use a smaller cutter to cut a shape out in the middle of the biscuit - put them onto a baking tray, and place a colourful clear boiled sweet in the 'hole' as the biscuit cooks the sweet melts to fill the shape. let them cool before fish slicing them off - you can even put a hole in the top of the bickie to attatch a ribon and hand in the window!

    Hope this helps.

  10. Good on you for baking with the little ones. In my former life as an infants teacher I used to love baking and so did they. Raspberry buns, flapjack cookies, melting moments and chocolate buns were popular. I always made bread with top infants - easy but time consuming cos you need to leave it to rise of course - kids thinks its great and we usually made bread hedgehogs!
Thanks for your brill suggestions on our bridal delights -we have such fun plotting, planning and creating together. Jo

Well I"ve finally taken the plunge...................

After drooling over many blogs for months now I've decided to finally take the plunge, so here is my new dawn.
Hence the beautiful sunrise above as photographed by Mr Twiggy through our bedroom window. (I'm sure I'll be including a lot of his pics, hope he doesn't expect commision).

I love crafting and have ever since I was a little girl and spent hours playing with my mums button tin (which I've inherited) and amused my self by making dresses for my dollies - even though I'd cut their hair and given them green felt tip highlights. Punk Tiny Tears - I should have marketed this idea !!

Hope you enjoy my work as much as I've enjoyed others who are a daily inspiration to me.

I hope to share favourite blogs, books and anything and everything with you, so enough off my blithering on and watch this space...............................................
