Advent traditions......What are yours?

 Hello peeps!

I'm in a much better mood today after a good nights kip.

Just had to pick poor Twiglet up from school has he has a touch of the lurgy, so he's tucked up in bed with a pile of comics and I should be ironing but I'm on here instead, much more fun.

We are disappointed that we haven't had any snow up here yet, so here are some of my photos from December 2010, up on Royd Moor, we had gone up to sledge, but the roads were all blocked by snowdrifts!! , I love these, look how tiny Twiglet is - soooo cute !!!

.Anyhoo, I flippin love December and as it was the 1st yesterday thought about my little Advent rituals.  I would like to say we lit our Advent candle  but we ahem, have put it somewhere safe, but can't remember where!!!

Here's what we are doing.

1. Twiglet is enjoying opening his Lego Star Wars advent calendar that his lovely Auntie bought for him - lucky boy.

2. I've started my December ritual of reading A Christmas Carol, see this link where I've mentioned it before. Link

3. Enjoying a rollocking good, ghost story, is anyone else watching Remember Me on BBC1 Sunday nights, flaming Nora I love it.  (I jumped so hard the other night I spilt tea down my jim jams).

It's also nice to see such atmospheric shots of our neck of the woods and lovely Scarborough and I LOVE Michael Palin.

If you've not seen it, iplayer it.

4.  We are feeding brandy to our Christmas cakes every week, Twiglet has a spoonful, screws up his face and proclaims, hmmmm lovely.  I remember when I was a tiddler having a taste of my darling Dad's whisky and doing the same thing.  My Dad always said `see you think we're enjoying ourselves !!'.

5. I'm doing a bit of Christmas stitching but more on that later...........

(I adore this photo of little Twiglet !!)

6. I plan to make some chilli jam, as several people have put in orders.

If I pictured my perfect Wintery evening, it would involve a good ghost story (book or film), a nice glass of vodka or a pint of  good real ale, some homemade Christmas cake and Wensleydale and a bit of stitching.
Simple pleasures, that's what my life is all about.

How about you? do you have Advent rituals that you do every year?

What's your perfect Winters afternoon or evening?

Ta ta for now.

Twiggy x

  1. Hi Twiggy, I'm loving Remember Me on a Sunday night too and I'm enjoying seeing my home town of Scarborough as well.
I hope Twiglet soon feels better
My perfect winter evening is spent either with my cross stitch or my crochet but I still enjoy my card making too

  2. I tried to watch Remember Me on the i-player last night but its not there. Grrr!
We're not into Xmas at all. The tradition in this house is to book a flight out of here as soon as the prices go low enough - which they did this morning. 35 days and counting! x

  3. You can keep your blimmin snow!! Its a mare getting to work etc. I am loving "Remember Me" but I have to admit watching it from behind a cushion - its very scary!! You should go to Haworth - its lovely at the moment and they have Santa Special trains on too. xxx

  5. I'm afraid Advent consists of chocolate calendars and little else round here! 2010 was a pig of a winter, but Small enjoyed it as he was just walking and had a blast! I think we may be in for another dump of snow this year so the twiglets (I call Small and housemate's son twiglets) may yet get to play in the snow. Hope your Twiglet is better soon. x

  6. Love Remember Me. Last part next week and I'm looking forward to the conclusion. Love Scarborough as I have a very close friend there. My best wintery afternoon would be Christmas movie (black &white) on tv while I chill knitting with feet up on sofa.

Well I"ve finally taken the plunge...................

After drooling over many blogs for months now I've decided to finally take the plunge, so here is my new dawn.
Hence the beautiful sunrise above as photographed by Mr Twiggy through our bedroom window. (I'm sure I'll be including a lot of his pics, hope he doesn't expect commision).

I love crafting and have ever since I was a little girl and spent hours playing with my mums button tin (which I've inherited) and amused my self by making dresses for my dollies - even though I'd cut their hair and given them green felt tip highlights. Punk Tiny Tears - I should have marketed this idea !!

Hope you enjoy my work as much as I've enjoyed others who are a daily inspiration to me.

I hope to share favourite blogs, books and anything and everything with you, so enough off my blithering on and watch this space...............................................
