Phew, Twiglet and I battled through torrential rain and gale force winds after school tonight.
We got wet through, fell through the door at 4.20pm, me thinking oh flippin heck I''ve got to make blimmin dinner now.
Then I remembered I'd left a chicken casserole bubbling away in the slow cooker - this made me very happy.
By 4.30pm, we were sat in our cosy jimjams scoffing dinner. Result !!
Oh slow cooker (from Freecycle) how I love thee, it's nearly as good,(but not quite obviously) as my Mum having dinner ready for me when I came home from school when I was a young 'un.
It's blowing a gale up here on the tops, as it did last night, we are curtains drawn, hunkered down for the evening, I'm planning on watching Allotment Challenge, Mapp and Lucia and doing a bit of stitching.
Yay for January evenings.
Keep safe and cosy.
Twiggy x
Three cheers for slow cookers ! I love mine.
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether to watch Allotment Challenge. I missed the first week and last year I shouted at the TV at quite a lot at the episodes I did watch. That being said I might have a peek tonight!
We are very disappointed in the Allotment Challenge this year, a good concept but it's a bit dull. I started doing a crossword while I watched - never a good sign !
DeleteI love my slow cooker too. It's windy here but not as bad as you have it. Sorry I haven't been commenting so much recently but I've been having issues with blogger but it seems ok tonight so here's hoping.
ReplyDeleteKeep safe and warm

Nice to hear from you Jackie,Blogger can be pesky at times x
DeleteWill have to look into this slow cooker thing. I've got one, but it's in the attic and I've never used it! So far we've managed to avoid the rain, but it's blowing hard enough for things to be taking flight here. x
ReplyDeleteSlow cookers are simply the best. People have really started to experiment with them now. I understand you can even do baked spuds in them now.
ReplyDeleteOur Stanley Range is like a slow cooker. It cooks meat really slow. Have you seen the film Vinyl Twiggy? I noticed that you like the Alarm on your profile. I really enjoyed the film.
ReplyDeleteHi Dave, no I haven't seen Vinyl, would definitely like to. We have some tickets booked for an evening with Mike Peters in March (a belated birthday gift for me). It's the 30th anniversary of the Strength tour which I went to see ( that makes me feel old, but I was still at high school at the time :)

I'm like Northsider above, and have a wood fired 'poor man's Aga'. This time of year it is always cooking something, even if it's just baked potatoes.
ReplyDeleteSounds great, keeps you warm and makes food, win win situation.
DeleteI love coming home to dinner cooking itself. I was just planning some slow cooker dinners for later in the week. do you have a favourite recipe?
